Cognito Motorsports is a rapidly growing Truck, SUV & UTV aftermarket product manufacturer with a highly successful factory supported UTV off road racing team based in Bakersfield, California. We are seeking an experienced team leader with proven race team management and crew chief mechanic skills. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on UTV, auto or powersports racing experience, and a minimum of three years verifiable experience running a professional race program.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing the overall race team program operations and UTV product testing program.
- Manages race car preparation and race event logistics, including race staff management, transportation, lodging and administrative support.
- Leads and performs race car maintenance, including teardown, inspection, reassembly, setup and testing of the race cars before every event.
- Manages the building and preparation of new team race cars to achieve competition readiness.
- Manages race team staff, including assignments, team building, individual and team performance, work schedules and personnel evaluations.
- Performs professional-level race car prep involving all aspects of engine, drivetrain, chassis, suspension, electronics and fuel systems preparation.
- Possesses a good working knowledge of data acquisition, installation, setup and analysis.
- Coordinates the purchasing and acquisition of all equipment, parts and supplies needed in support of the race team program.
- Manages the maintenance and preparation of all race team support vehicles.
- Maintains a clean, safe shop environment with a focus on mitigating tool loss, waste and risk of injury or mistakes.
- Ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures listed in the department resource folders and employee handbook.
- Possess a working knowledge of budgets, purchasing and fiscal accountability.
- Performs related duties as assigned by executive management.
- Will perform other duties as assigned.
- Overnight travel required.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Minimum three years of race team management experience in an automotive, powersports and/or race shop environment.
- Expertise and hands-on experience working on all standard automotive shop equipment, and mechanical operations, including chassis, drivetrain, steering, suspension, electrical and fuel systems.
- Proficiency with MS Office 365 programs, project management software and basic math calculations.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and professionalism.
- Lead by example, with the ability to mentor and coax performance from staff through leadership and mutual respect.
- This role requires an organized experienced person with excellent communication skills and meticulous attention to detail in all areas associated with this position.
- High School diploma minimum; college or vocational degree in a related field and ASE certification preferred.
