Race Engineer

The position:

We have an exciting opportunity for a new Race Engineering role in our Vehicle Performance Department. With a proven track record of working within a competitive motorsport environment, together with strong technical experience, our Race Engineers will be at the forefront of our future success.

 

The role:

This role, which will involve significant travel, will support the existing Senior Race Engineer and Performance Engineer team on one of our race cars. You will eventually be responsible for all aspects of car performance at a race event, including definition of the car set-up, organisation of the test programmes and definition of the car build specification. Initially, you will work in a traditional Performance Engineering role before being introduced to the Race Engineering position.

This position should appeal to current and experienced F1 Performance Engineers who are looking to take on increased responsibility and have an ambition to be a Race Engineer. Current and experienced Race Engineers in other motorsport series who wish to move to F1 would also be highly suited to this exciting new role.

 

Aside from the prerequisite trackside experience, we require candidates to be skilled in:

  • Preparation and presentation of reports, graphs etc both trackside and at the factory. This will require the ability to complete pre and post event analysis of car and driver performance.
  • A vision for engineering software that can improve our trackside operation.
  • Preparation and maintenance of engineering technical worksheets and operational procedures.
  • Assumes responsibilities and duties delegated by the Head of Vehicle Performance and Chief Race Engineer.

Education and work experience:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven trackside experience with previous single seaters.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar role.

Specialized knowledge and skills:

  • Proven experience with race engineering of single seaters & data acquisition systems.
  • Good understanding of lap time simulation software and vehicle dynamics/aerodynamics as it relates to racing cars.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink, VBA or other programming software desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Able to prioritise the workload, job lists and manage time efficiently.
  • Superior attention to detail and high standard work.
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team, putting the overall collective goals ahead of personal ambition.
