Prototype Build Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to all of the following:

  • Coordinate component, system, and vehicle builds to meet customer timing and quality requirements
  • Plan and set-up build and assembly process including manpower estimates, timing estimates, facilities and equipment requirements, process flow, safety plan, documentation requirements, and quality verification steps
  • Track all material deliverables including outsourced components, purchased components, in-house component builds, and final product deliveries
  • Work with machining, fabrication, assembly, composites, electrical lab, and quality control departments to review prints, generate cost estimates, establish timing, negotiate priority, resolve engineering issues, solve build issues, and meet quality requirements
  • Coordinate outsourcing including requesting quotes, selecting a supplier, verifying part quality, and meeting schedule
  • Assist with purchasing of raw material, standard components, shop supplies, shop equipment, and shipping services
  • Request and coordinate work orders to ensure correct assignment of labor hours
  • Work with shop supervisors to direct build and assembly personnel
  • Track and lead resolution of all build issues
  • Verify builds meet all quality requirements including print specifications, program requirements, and performance objectives
  • Coordinate vehicle shipping, logistics, support spares, off-site work, test support, and vehicle schedule
  • Participate in vehicle validation plan, vehicle testing, test issue resolution, and vehicle updates
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and provide guidance on part design related to manufacturing process feasibility and design for assembly
  • Provide status and risks for the engineering, build, and assembly teams in the weekly manufacturing coordination meeting

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Experience and Education:

  • 10+ years of experience coordinating / managing prototype build projects

Education with experience will be considered:

  • High school diploma with experience in engineering environment
  • College degree in technical major and shop experience

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with heavy prototype vehicle design, build, and assembly
  • Experience with working with large vehicles and heavy material
  • Experience working on EV vehicles
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, fabrication, fiber reinforced composites, and assembly
  • Knowledge of all systems on vehicles
  • Coordination and planning skills
  • Ability to read and understand 2D prints

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Basic competency in MS Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint required
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Military vehicle experience a plus

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, the ideal candidate must possess but not limited to all the following:

  • Support vehicle test events
  • Support engineering and purchasing in choosing suppliers for outsourced items by participating in site visits, quote reviews, and capabilities assessments
  • Interact with current & potential customers regarding the use of Pratt & Miller core technologies
  • Provide feedback on Pratt & Miller needs for facilities, resources, equipment, and capability
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the build and assembly process

Must be flexible with schedule to accommodate fixed deadlines.

This position will require lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information and employees in this role will need to meet those requirements. Requirements include US Citizenship, US Permanent Resident or ability to meet licensure requirements.
