Project Design Engineer

Job Purpose

  • To produce product and part designs that meet customer requirements in the most effective manor while considering the capabilities of ATL and our supply chain;
  • To manage Design Projects from inception to start or production and any subsequent Engineering change;
  • To be technical point of contact for assigned customers or projects;
  • To work with the relevant commercial point of contact for the customer to ensure all commercial implications of any projects are strictly managed;
  • To work with all Production Departments to produce designs which are consider customer requirements and ATL manufacturing needs;
  • To work with the Quality and Purchasing teams to ensure project requirements are clearly documented, communicated and met;
  • To consider the planning of projects at all times escalating risks and concerns as necessary.

Main Duties

  • Work with the Head of Design & Design Office Manager to ensure Design projects are delivered on time and right first time to all Operations areas;
  • Produce part and assembly models;
  • Produce drafts;
  • Produce production build information considering all Quality and Production requirements;
  • Conduct DFMEA’s where required;
  • Work with the Quality team to support customer specific Quality requirements;
  • Work with the Planning team to ensure correct internal resource is provided to a project at any given time;
  • Work with the Purchasing team to select suppliers;
  • Ensure that all prototype feedback is considered as part of any subsequent design review;
  • Lead or attend project meetings as required;
  • Produce documentation in line with customer requirements including (but not limited to) test reports, assembly manuals and system integration documentation;
  • Identify area for Continual Improvement and work with others as required to deliver requisite tasks to achieve the improvements.

Responsibilities & Competences

  • Ownership of key customer projects from a technical perspective;
  • Lead Engineering decision making process for specific projects;
  • Representing the business at a technical level on new customer projects;
  • Ownership of the Engineering Change process for those projects;
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times;
  • Ownership of tasks from start to finish;
  • Must have strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage workload;

Be able to use initiative to keep all processes moving.
