Production Group Leader - End of Line Paint

Purpose of the role:

To work as part of the McLaren Automotive Production team producing road cars and controlling the activities of a group of Team Leaders.  The role of the Group Leader is to coordinate the day to day activities of a multi-functional team, reporting to the Shift Manager. The role is also responsible for the control of holiday and absence management, Health & Safety, cost & quality control as well as productivity improvement, via your responsible Team Leaders and production resource.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Achieving the daily/annual volume throughput.
  • Keep the assembly line flowing continually, at the correct cycle duration.
  • Contributing to achieving a Quality score of sub 3 defect per car at Final gateway.
  • Group Leaders will be required to control all Health & Safety requirements for persons and equipment within their work stations, including management of training by ‘training the trainer’, maintenance, and implementation of products.
  • Contributing to the maintenance, upkeep and reporting of the Business Development Plans (BDP’s) in your area.
  • Monitoring & reporting against consumable expenditure, driving down reduction.
  • Control and reporting against scrap costs, driving down reduction.
  • Execution of methodologies for Lean Manufacturing, such as 5S, 7 wastes and continuous improvement, always striving for perfection.
  • Understand & demonstrate a broad knowledge of the build process to provide training & assist when issues arise.
  • Provide cover for absence within your team and have a flexible approach to working hours as the business demands.
  • Train & mentor Team Leaders and Team Members to achieve high quality in working practices and processes.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of production & business processes, i.e. quality, safety, cost and productivity.
  • Maintain Team Member versatility charts and ensure cross training & skills development plans are in place.
  • Prepare for production readiness by confirming resource, equipment, tools, parts availability, consumables etc on a daily basis.
  • Produce maintenance schedules, monitor up-time of machinery and ensure daily checks are conducted.
  • Lead problem solving activities – assist in analysis & resolution of problems, define & determine appropriate actions.
  • Track all near misses and accidents to solve any unsafe procedures. Report as required.
  • Conduct performance reviews for the area of responsibility, drive improvement, considering training and development through regular reviews
  • Lead the team and drive the improvement for FTT at EOL paint (Continous improvement at MPA must be shown)
  • Develop and implement improving process methods and flows.
  • Present the EOL paint results along with improvement plans to the management team weekly and monthly.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • No formal qualifications are necessary, however, a foundation in engineering, would be preferred.
  • Understanding and experience in a manufacturing/process driven environment ideal.
  • For some positions, specific skills may be required e.g. composite lay-up & reparation, vehicle repair etc.
  • Be able to demonstrate broad job knowledge of automotive processes and specific skills for the area in question.
  • Quality focused.
  • Good level of knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
