Pit & Paddock Manager

SUMMARY:

In tandem with the Director, F1 Sporting, responsible to oversee and manage the build-up of the Formula 1 and support race Pit & Paddock facilities to the required standard. Procure all equipment and items required whether purchased or rented to host an F1 event with supporting races. Manage all aspects of the Pit & Paddock operations ensuring all infrastructure is implemented and maintained to the statutory requirements as laid down by the FOM General Specification Manual.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure that all items and equipment required will be delivered on time for inventory control and deployment within time guidelines and deadlines
  • Coordinate with cross departmental resources to ensure all event requirements are executed to a high standard, within budget and in accordance to client’s expectations
  • Identify and report any potential risks for project delivery deadline
  • Give complete transparency of progress to all departments for a complete understanding or reaching deadlines and milestones
  • Liaise closely with the procurement department to ensure “on-time” delivery of purchased or rented items and equipment
  • Identify potential business partners to leverage outsourced “turnkey” solutions
  • Create a “Paddock Order Form” for teams and suppliers to be able to place orders for renting/purchasing items of equipment
  • Create an information brochure for the benefit of teams and suppliers to have an oversight of facilities prior to arrival
  • Liaise with FOM to organise the drivers track parade
  • Liaise with FOM to organise and arrange all aspects of the podium ceremony for Formula 1 and supporting races
  • Liaise with FIA to arrange the fitting and removal of the “Parc Fermé” barriers at specific times during the event sessions
  • Liaise with teams and suppliers for all paddock form requirements and delivery dates and times
  • Liaise with FOM Cargo, appointed ground handling company, Police and customs to schedule the inbound and outbound freight
  • Understand and work within critical timelines and deadlines
  • Oversee Pit & Paddock staff in the main and support paddocks
  • Monitors department spend and ensures compliance with annual budget
  • Year on year, develop a schedule for the Pit and Paddock build up and population, working
  • together with the events and venue operations team to minimize the effect on other event’s but maximising the efficiency of the Pit & Paddock build
  • Year on year develop a break down plan to least affect the any other event at the venue but maximise the efficiency of the breakdown and the storage of all equipment’s
  • Coordinate with cross departmental resources to ensure all event requirements are executed to a high standard, within budget and in accordance to client’s expectations
  • Manage departmental staff including the monitoring and recording of hours worked, approval of leave requests
  • Supporting the creation of departmental policies and procedures documents
  • Setting of annual performance objectives, Key Performance Indicators for Pit & Paddock staff
  • Initiation of disciplinary procedures in the event of poor performance
  • Cross training and workload share with Circuit Operations team operations when and if required
  • Perform any additional tasks required by Management in relation to the job

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent spoken and written English essential, Spanish would be an advantage
  • Previous experience of Pit & Paddock build from ground up essential
  • Previous experience of running the Pit & Paddock and manpower during a Formula 1 race with support races
  • Knowledge of Formula 1 officiation requirements and management of F1 requirements essential
  • Industrial and technical knowledge of the motorsports industry
  • Handling of fuel and gases
  • Operation of machinery and vehicles
  • Heavy lifting and manual work
  • A minimum of 6 to 8 years in a similar role
  • Excellent computer literacy. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Primavera, design programs
  • Willingness to learn and improve
  • Ability to innovate and adapt to immediate change in circumstances
