Modelling Engineer America's Cup (23 Month Fixed Term Contract)

The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team are joining forces with INEOS Britannia, as the Challenger of Record for the 37th America’s Cup competition. This project brings together two highly complementary spheres of high-performance, high-technology engineering and sporting challenge.

The Modelling Engineer role requires individuals to create, develop and maintain mathematical models of the yacht including its physics and those of the fluids it works within and the onboard electrical and hydraulic systems. The accuracy of these models and their applicability to the simulation and optimisation use-cases is crucial for performance discovery and design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high fidelity models of boat and sub-systems physics, working with Fluids and Design groups to capture appropriate levels of functionality.

  • Work with Performance and Simulation group to develop mathematical models for steady-state, dynamic and optimal control simulations.

  • Work with Performance and Validation groups to validate models and correlate them with physical measurements.

Candidate Profile

  • A degree in a related technical discipline (engineering, maths, physics or a similar discipline. - a 2:1 or higher is desirable)

  • Excellent grounding in engineering numerical methods, classical mechanics, and multi-body dynamics.

  • Relevant experience in non-linear programming techniques and optimal control will be considered beneficial.

  • Conversant with engineering software tools and object-oriented coding languages.

  • Excellent communicative and collaborative skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in small, focused teams towards tight deadlines.

Benefits

We demand the best from our people so it’s only right we reward them with the best benefits.  That’s why we offer a competitive package that includes: Bonus Scheme, Life Assurance, Private Medical Cover and 25-days holiday per annum.
