This person’s role is to lead GM’s Charlotte Tech Center such that it provides the necessary resources for GM to win races and championships.

This person will manage the day to day operations of the Charlotte Tech Center and will support the GM racing Program Managers by providing to them the resources required to meet their program’s needs for success.

This person will manage a group of up to 80 engineers and technicians, including GM salaried employees, contract service employees and technical partner employees, residing at the GM Charlotte Tech Center.

Assigned Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Based on team input identified by the Program Managers, work with GM Program Managers and GM racing leadership to develop and execute a world class technical program that meets the team’s needs

  • Support the Program Managers in meetings with GM’s racing teams and technical partners to identify needs that can be supported by the GM Charlotte Tech Center

  • Lead GM's technical team and facilities day to day operations towards GM's objective of winning races and championships

  • Support the Program Managers with the communication of technical projects and technical strategies to GM leadership, race teams, and technical partners

  • Provide technical and strategic advice to the GM racing Program Managers

  • Optimize the GM Charlotte Tech Center (personnel and equipment) for efficiency and effectiveness

Facility Responsibilities:

  • Lead the layout development, build out and commissioning of the GM Charlotte Tech Center utilizing involvement and execution support of various GM and 3rd party organizations

  • Lead the implementation and execution of GM Safety processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives at the GM Charlotte Tech Center

  • Lead the development of work procedures and processes for all areas of the facility

  • Work with GM Purchasing to acquire the necessary equipment for the GM Charlotte Tech Center by using the new capital purchase process and GM’s asset recovery system

  • Ensures good housekeeping, safety practices and the availability of adequate supplies and equipment at the GM Charlotte Tech Center

  • Responsible for managing all operational areas of the GM Charlotte Tech Center, including safety, IT, security, housekeeping, maintenance, etc.

Management/Human Resource Responsibilities:

  • Recruit world class employees (salary, contract, bundled service or technical partners) to enhance the team

  • Work with employees to develop career growth plans

  • Conduct semi-annual reviews with employees

  • Participate in compensation planning meetings with GM racing leadership

  • Lead staff meetings with the GM Charlotte Tech Center staff

  • Maintains good employee relations among work group

  • Support rotational assignments between production and racing

Technology Transfer Responsibilities:

  • Identify and enlist help from GM internal resources as needed

  • Identify and enlist help from external resources (Pratt & Miller, Kaz Technologies, etc.) as needed

  • Identify technology transfer opportunities between racing and production

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Author purchase order requests as required to support the GM Charlotte Tech Center

  • Approve invoices as required to support the GM Charlotte Tech Center

  • Responsibility to track and meet annual GM Charlotte Tech Center budget

  • Assist in preparing future budgets

  • Ensure compliance to all GM policies (safety, accounting, finance, contract approval process, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Should have technical experience in professional motorsports, preferably in at least one the series in which GM currently competes (IndyCar, NASCAR, IMSA, NHRA, etc.).

  • This person should have a general understanding of technologies applied in motorsports, including simulation, tire engineering, software development, aerodynamics and motorsports related test rigs

  • BS in Engineering required

  • MS in Engineering preferred

  • MBA or Management/Leadership training preferred

  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a proven track record of working with development teams to execute engineering projects/programs

  • Experience managing and working with technical suppliers and partners

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills specifically in communicating technical content to a variety of audiences

  • Previous facility operations experience preferred

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Long hours and flexibility with work schedule required

  • Weekday and weekend travel are required (including air travel)
