General Role Overview

 

The Accounting Manager, EU reports directly to the Global Financial Controller, oversees the accounting function in Europe, manages the monthly closing and consolidation process for European markets and supports the global consolidation process. This is a leadership position that is proactive and solution oriented. The individual in this role will be an expert communicator and leader with a strong ability to oversee responsibilities and collaborate across accounting functions domestically and globally.     

 

Responsibilities

  • Own monthly closing process, prepare standalone financial statements on a timely basis as required by the company in accordance with US GAAP and local European reporting requirements.

  • Own the monthly European consolidation process.

  • Support the monthly global consolidation process, rapidly resolve any issues that arise during the consolidation process.

  • Proactively design, implement, and maintain processes improvements to increase financial reporting and consolidation efficiencies.

  • Manage all the financial and tax matters, including accounting, payroll, invoicing, cash collection and account payable, internal controls and tax compliance.

  • Support transfer pricing modelling

  • Evaluate and recommend changes in the company's cost structure, as appropriate.

  • Oversee the development and proper use of statistical accounts.

  • Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies, controls over financial reporting and procedures.

  • Develop and enforce all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines in alignment with the laws in the European markets.

  • Work closely with FP&A to ensure consolidated accounting data is accurately loaded to budgeting models.

  • Support financial analysis for business strategies and provide recommendations to functional teams and management for decision-making.

  • Support the development of strategic plans for optimized productivity.

  • Uphold standards of excellence and quality

  • Contribute cross-functionally and assist with other key projects as needed.

  • Participate in the internal/external audits and coordinate with relevant government authorities.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in accounting and finance, qualified accountant (CPA, ACCA, etc.)

  • 8+ years of corporate and/or public accounting work experience

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and European accounting concepts, principles and practices.

  • Understanding of SOX compliance requirements

  • Strong understanding of intercompany eliminations, foreign currency translation, and topside adjusting journal entries

  • Deep understanding of local European tax regulations, including VAT requirements

  • Strong knowledge of SAP, advanced Excel skills

  • Strong working knowledge of operational procedures

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work effectively, to be adaptable to change, both big and small

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong decision-making capabilities

  • Results oriented, attention to both “big picture” as well as detail.

  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and delegation skills

  • Proven experience in managerial role, ability to motivate and lead people and hold employees accountable.

  • Excellent fluency in English, other European languages preferred.

  • Automotive OEM or automotive component manufacturing experience preferred.
