Lead Product HV Safety Engineer

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):

As Lead Product HV Safety Engineer you will deliver all necessary technical guidance and authority to achieve high standards of High Voltage electrical safety, focusing on four main areas:

1.      General EV Safety Precautions

2.      Authorisation and Training

3.      Safety Process and Documents 

4.      Work on Energy Systems 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of High Voltage and Electric Vehicle system safety along with a Quality focused approach
  • Enablement to ensure the Propulsion EV safety strategy is successfully delivered
  • Provide support to ensure the wider team meet the project deliverables consistently across the business sectors
  • Own and deliver reporting matrix to support project readiness
  • Coordination of issue management and drive correct ownership of technical resolution
  • Be responsible for redefining the HV/EV Safety Policy for all business functions
  • Ensure a data driven approach, promoting compliance to appropriate safety regulation
  • Establish EV safety standards, requirements and design rules
  • Oversee the creation and publication of business function specific HV/EV safety rules
  • Oversee all HV safety documentation printing requirements
  • Define and release EV Safety Authority and Identification solution
  • Contribute to HV/EV emergency protocol across all functions
  • Project momentum - meeting cadence, agenda and actions
  • Recording project status – producing department weekly/monthly reports

    Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)

    Essential:   

    • Strong experience within an engineering discipline
    • Extensive knowledge of HV and EV safety concepts and Safety Regulations
    • Knowledge of typical BEV and PHEV system solutions and technologies
    • Previous experience within Vehicle Engineering, Powertrain, Electrical or Service
    • System and Technical issue management experience
    • Project management experience
    • Demonstrable experience of technical target management
    • Ability to build and manage multiple internal and external relationships in complex stakeholder environments
    • Strong people skills with the ability to work individually and cross functional teams
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Experience of meeting deadlines
    • Demonstrable knowledge in systems engineering theory

    Desirable:

    • Degree qualified in an Engineering specialism
    • Knowledge of automotive Power Supply Systems
    • Experience of automotive diagnostic systems
    • Ability to develop cross functional teams with excellent levels of communication
    • Experience of Standard / Requirement definition
    • A working knowledge HSE regulation and Market of Sale legislation
    • Experience of interacting with technicians within retailer network
    • Experience of communicating on a global scale
    • Experience of complex high voltage systems and safe operating conditions
    • Qualified in the use of 6 sigma toolset or similar methodologies
    • Experience of management of outsourced projects with strategic suppliers
    • Experience in the development of Service tools and processes
    • Experience of Training development or training delivery

    Other information

    This role will lead the activities associated with the development Lotus Cars EV Safety Framework within the Propulsion department of Group Lotus.  The role will report into the Propulsion HV Systems Lead Engineer and will also require work and communication cross all sectors of the UK operations.

    The defined position will work across two main sites of Lotus Cars to apply an all-encompassing approach with no compromise to safety, setting out consistent and intuitive safety protocols across all business sectors:
