Karting Operations Manager

 

Job Purpose:

Accountable for all operational, technical, and commercial deliverables for Total Karting Zero. The UK’s only arrive and drive electric karting series. TKZ is a purpose driven championship designed to promote diversity, inclusion, and the identification / development of driving talent. In 2022 TKZ will run two summer Championships (North / South) as well as a winter series and numerous introductory (Sparks) practise and coaching events.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Liaison with Executive Leadership Team to agree annual performance targets (Commercial, technical, operational)
  • Translation of performance targets into annual operating plan, ensuring adherence to allocated budget
  • Responsible for all aspects of factory operations
  • Work in partnership with Sales and Marketing to ensure alignment and understanding of the needs and requirements of both parties
  • Work in partnership with Technology function to ensure kart build is delivered to plan, that kart fleet is operationally robust and that technical issues on event are noted via approved mechanisms / forums
  • Responsible for implementation and adherence of Engineering specification(s) at factory / on event. Be the interface between Technology and Snr Technicians to ensure that no barriers to job tasks being complete exist
  • Ensure relevant number of karts are available for any given event including spare karts to provide adequate contingency, managing hardware list, spares / consumables usage inventory and replenishment as required
  • Ensure relevant levels of support equipment (awnings, chargers, tools, consumables) are taken and returned from each event ensuring equipment is fit for purpose, maintained and in accordance with hardware list
  • Ensure that customer / technician feedback is captured effectively and reported back to the Technology function in a positive and constructive manner
  • Own and manage all aspects of staffing plan at both factory and on event ensuring fair and equitable allocation of work between permanent / causal staff and effective management of lieu days
  • Work with Event Manager to ensure that event calendar (Championship, Club, Sparks, Practise and Coaching) is booked in accordance with event schedule, that all operational requirements at individual tracks are in place and that defined TKZ customer experience is delivered
  • Ensure Event Manager (or designate) actively manages customer experience on event and where required deals effectively with customer feedback. Act as escalation point for issues not resolvable by Event Manager
  • Manage all aspects of transport fleet (service, licences, cleaning, adherence to weight / driving limits etc.) including management of driver resource pool
  • Lead Health and Safety agenda for the company ensuring H&S Policy remains up to date / relevant and is being adhered to and that factory environment is maintain in accordance with regulations and to a high standard of tidiness / cleanliness 
  • Further develop external supplier relationships to provide increased resilience for the business
  • Work with Sales and Marketing to fulfil ad hoc events outside of scope of Championship, Club, Sparks Practise and Coaching

 

Financial Responsibility:

  • Work in partnership with Sales & Marketing to ensure revenue plan is delivered
  • Direct responsibility for cost control and delivery against budget objectives

Person Spec

  • At least 5 years management experience within the motorsport industry
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Enthusiastic and proactive
  • Process driven, attention to detail, meticulous
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate a team and drive results 
  • Approachable by customers and your team
  • Flexible, dynamic, able to think on your feet, not scared by change
  • Managed a team of more than 10 team members
