This is a Hybrid position within our IT Organization. The role will allow employees to work offsite but will also require onsite work based on business needs. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to the innovation center to which they are assigned as their primary GM facility. To create a successful NASCAR Cup Series™ program, you need a proper base to build from – it’s much more than developing the car you want and sticking a badge on it. Our team is expanding, and the GM Motorsports team is hiring Software Developers, Business Analysts, and IT Operations Race Event Support. If you have prior motorsports experience or, have a deep passion for motorsports, we are looking for you to come join the General Motors Team!

The IT Operations Race Event Support travels weekly to NASCAR events as a subject matter expert in all technology hardware and software associated with the GM Motorsports trailer and events. Pre, during, and post events this role will help grow relationships with Race Teams and partners that together help Chevy win each weekend! If the individual spots issues outside of their scope, they will proactively notify others. You will have frequent contact with GM Motorsports stakeholders and should have a passion for the racing industry.

Pre Race Event

  • Boot up equipment in the trailer, physically connect to the NASCAR track side network, validate operation of telecommunication equipment

  • Management of AV equipment in the trailer to support other staff

  • Set-up track side sensor stations (weather, temp probes) and validate receipt of data feeds

  • Collaborate with GM photography group/NASCAR to ensure trackside photography nodes are properly located

  • Collaborate with GM photography team to ensure track side photographers can off load images to the trailer

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot connectivity issues as necessary - working with photographers/NASCAR

  • Troubleshoot equipment and replace as necessary on-site

  • Preform physical measurements and observe track side conditions (Pit Road). Document into a formal report each week

  • Manual or via semi-automated methods prepare and distribute reports about the upcoming race current event

  • Act as on-site support for team support of GM provided race tools and applications

During the event

  • Communicate with Racing teams and GM Motorsports regarding operational status and potential issues with tools or the telecommunication trailer.

  • Act as communication relay between Chevy Race teams and track side photographers to filter requests and share outcoming images with the teams. As possible, proactively assess need to communicate and help the Race teams.

  • Act point of contact between GM/Chevy and NASCAR IT group to diagnose and correct NASCAR network issues

  • First line monitoring for Chevy competition tools used during events

Post Race Event

  • Participate / lead in continuous improvement initiatives to proactively improve the environment and reduce risk for operational issues.

  • Submit and track issues experienced during a racing event to resolution.

  • Communicate to development / innovation team requirements to drive operational improvements. Where possible contribute to development of operational capabilities enabling the track.

  • Drive improvements to the Motorsports Operations playbook

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in IT field environment as technical support

  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience in the motorsports industry

  • Ability to travel weekly to racing events

  • Ability to coordinate and complete projects within the information technology department

  • Excellent communication skills
