Job Description

We are seeking qualified candidates for Part-Time Officials openings supporting Pit Lane within the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and Lamborghini Super Trofeo. These positions are responsible for understanding and enforcing the IMSA Sporting and Technical Regulations in a consistent, timely, and professional manner. Successful applicants will maintain a proficient and high level of communication with the Series stakeholders including participants, Team Managers, fellow officials and/or Race Control staff as determined by their supervisor.

SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility for this position is to inspect vehicles as procedure dictates to assure compliance with specified series guidelines for competitors. Other responsibilities include directing competitors in proper procedures for participating in race events.

Future Positions may exist in Pit Lane Technical Inspection and in general Race Operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work with a team of technical inspectors to verify that the race vehicles are in compliance with IMSA rules.
  • Work one or more assigned inspection station(s) for initial through post-race inspections.
  • Assist in pre and post workday operations including assembly and disassembly of inspection equipment.
  • Competent use of standard measurement devices including Micrometers, Calipers and Digital inclinometer
  • Maintain equipment avoiding damage and ensuring that hardware is properly stored for use at future events.
  • Perform duties in a timely and authoritative manner while portraying a professional courteous image.
  • Competent understanding of radio use, procedures and etiquette.
  • Assist with race car traffic control, crowd control and credential verification.
  • Attend meetings and telephone conferences as requested.
  • Assist unloading and loading transporters as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Handle issues appropriately in garage and pit areas.
  • Understand, communicate, and enforce IMSA' race procedure rules.
  • Successfully pass Pit Road Official Exam as administered.
  • Officiate race on pit road or in other locations using applicable technology.
  • Maintain proficiency in and knowledge of all pit road rules and penalties.
  • Implement and apply the appropriate procedures during practice, qualifying and the race including pit road and other race assignments in a consistent, timely, authoritative, and professional manner.
  • Establish and maintain proper communications with the assigned crew chief(s) and / or Race Control as required.
  • Properly execute and confirm any directive from Race Control.
  • Display willingness and ability to learn new software programs created for race officiating

Attend meetings and educational seminars.

Approximate travel 90%.

Education and experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Good written and oral communication skills, and experience/education in the field of mechanics.

Candidates must be able to identify and maintain a safe environment, be able to determine operational needs and execute with little direction.

They must possess the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public and able to work on their feet for long periods of time.

Additional consideration is given to candidates with automotive engineering experience and/or robust mechanical aptitude.

These positions require travel on both weekdays as well as weekends.

OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Customer service, people skills, represent Company.  Use of computer is helpful.

Position is safety sensitive and participates in the corporate Substance Abuse Program (SAP).
