Head of Sport Communications

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Communications, and within the broader context of FIA Communications, the Head of Sport Communications is responsible for shaping and delivering communications activities for the FIA Sport departments, including but not limited to Safety, Development and Technical Department, but excluding Formula one, Formula 2, Formula 3.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and propose to the Director of Communications a short, medium and long term sports communication strategy and subject to regular review once agreed and implemented ;
  • Establish a Sport Communications Working Group to discern the core organisational goals and strategy for the Sport pillar, and devise contributive communications objectives, themes and messaging ;
  • Set out a proactive plan of activity and implementation, by department, that is achievable within the current resource and beneficial to the aims of the FIA as determined by the Director of Communications and present the strategy and plan to the Sport departments ;
  • Line manage the existing Sport Communications team of 2 to 3 communication manager for sport and media delegates ;
  • Oversee an existing portfolio of championships including Karting ;
  • Attend if needed Championship to identify and engage with key stakeholders, observe promoter activity, develop media relations and propose suggestions for developing the FIA communications remit, as well as developing sufficient knowledge within the team to be able to provide cover in the event of absences ;
  • Work closely with the wider FIA Communications team and Marketing to foster a collaborative approach and ensure goals and activities are aligned with wider purpose ;
  • Support the Events department in the planning and delivery of Communications activity relevant to high profile events ;
  • Writing and editing of press releases, speeches, presentations, articles, and briefing notes related to motor sport ;
  • Handling of incoming media enquiries ;
  • Ensure departmental content support to the Digital Communications team for the FIA website and social media ;
  • Implement an agreed reporting mechanism to the Director of Communications and Sport departments to identify workflow and highlight results according to KPIs.

PROFILE

  • Communications, PR and Media to Degree level
  • 10 years of professional experience in a similar position related to communications, PR and marketing
  • Proven interest in and experience of motor sport
  • Experience of devising and delivering communications strategies for major organisations and sporting properties, ideally within motor sport
  • Broad understanding and appreciation of all forms of motor sport
  • Experience of managing communications teams
  • Substantial contact book and relationships within motor sport, as well as media relations expertise
  • Excellent project management, writing and editing skills
  • Strong communications skills and a solid strategic mindset
  • Hard work ethic and high degree of integrity
  • Contemporary internal communications tools such as Teams
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Experienced in managing social media communications on behalf of organisations and practical understanding of website CMS
  • Native or Fluent in English ; Basic level of French would be significant asset
