General Summary:
This position reports to the Director of Engineering; is located in Banbury, UK. Leading the configuration and development of on car control systems at race and test events. Responsible for ensuring control systems are configured correctly and optimized within the FIA set guidelines. Work with race engineers and drivers on improvements and tuning of the systems and tools to the drivers and teams’ requirements.
General Responsibilities:
- Manage department personnel from recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement through to separation.
- Mentor, train and guide personnel as required. Develop staff using effective performance reviews and development plans.
- Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
- Responsible for establishing standard operating procedures and budgets to maintain a practical yet functional department.
- Assumes any responsibilities and duties delegated by the Director of Engineering or their designee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the trackside control engineers’ activities and responsibilities in order to ensure that the cars are operated safely and legally as well as ensuring to achieve the highest level of performance.
- Provide a strategy and planning for on-going control systems tools development. Identify areas of improvements and prioritise as required. Make recommendations on the development strategy and propose a plan of execution.
- Manage Control Systems Group budget. Make appropriate recommendations for recruitment strategy.
- Define and develop all the control systems related trackside procedures, such as software release and FIA declaration.
- Ensure necessarily FIA declarations are made in a timely manner and satisfy all the legality requirements.
- Ensure the control systems are set-up and working within the FIA guidelines, whilst developing and managing the embedded code for on-car systems.
- Work closely with electrical and systems engineers. Provide necessarily assistance to manage sensors and electrical systems on the car.
- Work closely with Ferrari electrical engineers in order to ensure all the necessarily information are communicated properly in a timely manner.
- Manage all aspects of starts including driver procedures and clutch torque controller tuning.
- Assist trackside control engineers from Race support room in Banbury during race weekends as required.
- Attend race / test events as required to cover for the absence of trackside control engineers or otherwise.
- Attend faults meetings, responsible to manage and solve all the faults assigned to control systems.
- Provide necessarily support and solutions for the team’s simulator activities. Attend occasional development meetings either in Banbury or in Italy.
- Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
Education and Work Experience:
- Degree or equivalent in control systems engineering.
- Previous experience of working with control systems in Formula One is essential.
- Previous experience developing embedded code for the SECU is highly desirable.
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Strong technical background in racing car control systems.
- Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.
- Quick decision-making skills whilst working through problems in a scientific and analytical way. Work well in a team environment with personnel at all levels.

Atlas, System Monitor, Visual Basic, C#, Simulink.
Work Environment Physical Demands:
An ability to work and prioritise within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require some domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.
This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
