Graduate Track Support Engineer (in training)

The Opportunity

A fabulous opportunity at the outset of your motorsport career to join AER’s team of motorsport engineering professionals, trackside, at international race events. AER is looking to recruit a graduate with a desire to develop skills and knowledge as a customer facing motorsport track support engineer. Coached by an experienced Track Support Lead, this is an extremely exciting opportunity for an engineering graduate to learn ‘all things track support.’ It is expected that the successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, knowledge, innovation and make a difference. An enquiring mind with a desire to push boundaries and enhance current ways of working to deliver commercial benefit. A commitment to ongoing learning is vital. All training will be provided to develop the skills required.

Please note: To meet the needs of the role and fast paced nature of the business, the successful candidate will require a flexible approach to working hours. Considerable travel commitments (European & International) throughout the year which will require time away from home weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Please carefully consider any restrictions on travel abroad and your commitment to spending time away from home. Travel is an essential part of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coached and trained by the Track Support Team and Project Lead you will support on a programme, both from the office base and trackside.

  • As a customer facing representative of the company, the successful candidate will be an excellent communicator engaging confidently and knowledgeably to build relationships.

  • Between track events the role will include training & development on all aspects of project support onsite at the company’s Essex based facility and trackside, such as: 

    o Reporting
    o Data analysis & car and engine calibration development o Lifingofcomponents
    o Preparation for future events and fault reporting
    o Involvement with in-house engine testing

Key Skills / Experience

  • Previous experience/exposure during a work placement in a similar role at a professional motorsport level ideally F1, WEC, IndyCar, DTM or other relevant experience is desirable but not essential.

  • Previous experience/exposure during a work placement with professional engine management software, such as McLaren, Magneti Marelli, Cosworth/Pectel, Life Racing or Motec is desirable but not essential.

  • An awareness and understanding of engine electronic systems / calibration / sensors / wiring

  • Competent level with PC / typical software - MS Office (particularly Excel), Matlab, etc.

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and customer relationship management - written and verbal

  • Demonstrates an organised approach to work through excellent time management

  • Role models professionalism and acts as an ambassador for the business.

  • Flexibility to travel/work on weekends in line with race calendar requirements

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in an engineering discipline, ideally motorsport engineering. 2:1 or above.
  • A valid driver’s licence may be required

Hours of work & Benefits

Standard full-time working week, 40 hours a week, 8 hours a day. When based at the AER's Essex facility, standard office hours are flexible between 7.30am to 5.15pm. To meet the needs of the role and fast paced nature of the business, the successful candidate will require a flexible approach to working hours. Considerable travel commitments (European & International) throughout the year which will require time away from home weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
