Fire and Rescue - Firefighter/EMT

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Firefighter/EMT protects life and property by performing firefighting, emergency aid, and fire prevention duties. The position maintains fire equipment, apparatus and facilities.

Essential Functions

  • Performs emergency aid activities, including administering first aid and providing other assistance as required.
  • Maintains fire equipment, apparatus and facilities. Performs minor repairs to departmental equipment.
  • Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment; cleans and washes walls and floors; cares for grounds around station; makes minor repairs; washes, hangs and dries hose; washes, cleans, polishes, maintains and tests apparatus and equipment.
  • Performs duties as a certified EMT or Firefighter, according to criteria and standards set forth by the department.
  • Master the use of all appropriate rescue equipment and proper safety procedures to effectively support track operations during all track events.
  • Be proficient in all towing equipment and proper towingtechniques.
  • Use hand held radios to keep in constant contact with the person running “control.”
  • Work outdoors in a fast-‐paced, team environment.
  • Assists in training new employees as assigned.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather condition, including temperature extremes, during day and evening shifts. Work is often performed in emergency and stressful situations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, especially during the actual time frame of the race or during certain firefighting or EMT emergency.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; hear; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell.

The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-‐time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Sunday; 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. 4 to 8 hour shifts are assigned per person. Notify track operations monthly availability for scheduling purposes.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED diploma.

Preferred Experience

2 – 3 years work related experience.

Additional Required Eligibility Qualifications

  • Current Fireman or EMT/Paramedic with a local rescue agency with all applicable current certifications.
  • Valid Diver’s License.
