F1 Control and Calibration Engineer

At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.

 

The Team has set a new benchmark for Formula One success during the sport’s current Hybrid era, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the Constructors’ Championship in 2021.

 

We are currently on the lookout for a Control and Calibration Engineer to join the Performance Department at Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix.

Working in the controls applied team at our state-of-the-art facility in the UK, you will be part of a team that is responsible for writing control systems for the FIA Standard ECU, calibration development and provide support whilst the systems are in use.

 

To be successful in this role, we would be looking for you to do the following:

  • Identify control systems requiring improvements, seek solutions, develop, code and test improvements.

  • Undertake calibration development to ensure reliability and optimise performance.

  • Perform data analysis and write algorithms to assess reliability and performance.

  • Create specification documentation to clearly and concisely communicate faults, concerns and potential improvements.

  • Support the applied team whether at the dyno, racetrack or at customer facilities.

What we are looking for:

  • More than 2 years' experience in a similar role in the automotive industry.

  • Experience writing and testing control systems using Matlab / Simulink.

  • Understanding of time series data analysis using Matlab or other similar tools.

  • High attention to detail and enjoys problem solving.

  • An understanding of vehicle transmissions, hydraulics, fuel systems and electronic systems.

Prior experience in motorsport is not required: we are more interested in your potential to deliver at the highest level, applying your skills and understanding to practical engineering challenges.
