Electronics Hardware Engineer (Automotive)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
Develop new, and enhance existing electronic engine and vehicle control systems.  Design (including schematic capture, printed circuit board layout and assembly, and creation of Bills of Material) electronic circuits and control devices for automotive systems.  Install and test electronic prototypes verifying that all components of the system interact together to achieve optimum performance. Analyze circuit components and modules to evaluate the their operational effect on the vehicle.  Ensure that the operation of the vehicle is not compromised.

Research, analyze and compare various electronic devices in order to choose the best components; research various external suppliers and review specifications to ensure component compliance and compatibility with our products; research OEM and competitive products and patents, and make recommendations for design strategies.

Write technical specifications and engineering documents; use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks; evaluate operational systems and recommend design modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in system requirements.

Evaluate and recommend design modifications; practice and adhere to engineering methods, practices and principles; approve 1st article components.

Assemble experimental circuitry (breadboard) or complete prototype model. Recommend changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.

Utilize test equipment including oscilloscope and VOM for finding and defining signals in vehicles. Set up standard test apparatus or devise test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests used to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model; analyze and interpret test data.

Analyze manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to locate and characterize electrical/electronic signals in vehicles.
