Electronics Engineer - Embedded Systems

For many fans of Formula One, the sport exists between lights and chequered flag on a Sunday afternoon. It begins and ends with the exploits of the drivers on the track. But this is merely the tip of the spear. The reality of modern F1 is that of a complex and intertwined operation, every part of which needs to perform near its limit if success is to be achieved. From the pit crew searching for the ultimate repeatable pit stop, to the inspiration of the designers, the application of engineers and the herculean efforts of an army of fabricators and machinists. Much of our success is thanks to the diversity of thought and spectrum of skill sets held within the team, our ability to recognise unique contributions from individual team members is just a part of why we love what we do.

Job Description

We are looking for passionate Electronics Engineers (Embedded Systems) at all levels to join Red Bull Powertrains.  In our brand-new purpose-built electronics facility, we have the tools required to develop new technologies, deliver exciting research projects and above all support our dynamic team of engineers, ensuring that they flourish and realise their goals and targets.

In this role you will be responsible for the specification, design, development, testing, debugging and operation of embedded systems for the power unit from initial concept through to successful usage on the PU during races. In this brand new role you will focus on the hardware design in the following areas: high performance processing platforms (e.g. Microcontroller, FPGA, SoC), high speed communication interfaces (e.g. Ethernet, CAN FD, FlexRay, SPI), sensor signal conditioning & measurement electronics, etc.

To be considered for this role, you will be educated to degree level within an Electrical/Electronic Engineering or allied discipline, as well as having multi-year experience in state-of-the-art embedded systems projects. Experience within a F1 hybrid power unit project is advantageous but not essential, however what is essential is advanced knowledge in schematic design and PCB layout of digital and analogue circuits. You’re skilled at starting a system design from a blank sheet of paper and finding innovative solutions, which enable performance advantages while maintaining the highest product quality. Working with multiple stakeholders to coordinate and meet all their requirements will be an essential part of your job. A background of working within high power and high voltage (up to 1000V) systems is preferred as well as advanced knowledge of electronics simulation and data analysis tools. You will have a proven track record of successful fault investigation, containment, and rectification. Excellent time management, communication and problem-solving skills enable you to succeed in a team competing at the highest level of motorsports.

There are multiple vacancies for Electronics Engineers (Embedded Systems) from Junior up to Lead Engineer level depending on your experience.

Not only are these fantastic Electronics Engineers (Embedded Systems) roles, but it is also a fantastic team to work with here at Red Bull Powertrains. A good salary is just the start, there are many other benefits too such as our bonus scheme, private health care cover, life assurance scheme, workplace nursery, company contributed pension scheme, on site gym & fitness classes, free food, and a cycle to work scheme; but above all, the job satisfaction doesn’t get any better than the feeling of making a real contribution to the function of our grand prix cars.
