Electrical and Electronics Designer

Purpose of the Role:

The role is to work as a key member of the electrical design team to enhance the packaging and integration of the on-car electrical systems and harnesses.

Role Dimensions:

The role will involve leading the packaging and integration activities for electrical systems and harnesses, working closely with other design groups to ensure total integration of electrical systems with other on car systems and structures, ensuring commonality of best practice and tools use amongst the existing design champions for each area.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Coordination of electrical hardware installation design activities
  • Refinement and detailed development of initial packaging schemes from design groups and harness champions
  • Optimisation of electrical hardware for minimum weight
  • Developing innovative packaging methods for electrical units, wiring and sensor installations
  • Bespoke micro-electronics unit enclosure design
  • Managing the development of a library of electrical components to be used across design groups
  • Defining design guidelines and ensuring best operational practices are followed within our Design Office wide PLM toolset
  • Investigation and support for resolution of mechanical faults affecting electrical system reliability
  • Represent the department during development activities and in design reviews

Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 
Essential

  • Senior level experience in wiring harness physical design, preferably in Motorsport
  • Proficient in wiring harness modelling using 3D CAD systems - CATIA V6 preferred
  • Knowledge of manufacturing practices and procedures of wiring harness
  • Strong attention to detail and an attitude to produce ‘right first time’ quality work

Preferred

  • Experience in use of wiring harness optimization tools
  • Experience of composite component design
