Dyno Test Support Engineer

At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and rising star George Russell.

The Team has set a new benchmark for Formula One success during the sport’s current Hybrid era, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the Constructors’ Championship in 2021.

 

The role:

 

We are looking for a Dyno Test Support Engineer who has the passion and determination to make an impact in our Dyno Test engineering field. The role will involve line managing the group of Systems Engineers and overseeing internal and customer test events at Mercedes-AMG Petronas in Brackley. Working collaboratively with team members you will be responsible for the configuration and development of the Dyno testbed systems (including but not limited to: AVL PUMA, MTS ADC, dSPACE, System Monitor).

 

As our Dyno Test Support Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Continued development of the dyno systems for operational effectiveness and quality of the test event

  • First line contact for any dyno control and electrical related issues

  • Capability project management from conception through to successful commissioning

  • Customer liaison and test event support, supporting the facilitation of customer test requirements

  • Responsible for thorough fault analysis and resolution of testbed system related issues using root cause analysis.

  • Representative for liaising with testbed developers

  • Actively collaborating with HPP Test Engineering (testbed facilities) to ensure an aligned approach with MGP

  • Investigating future capabilities and long-term development strategies

  • Training and supporting of testbed operators

What we are looking for:

 

The successful candidate will bring a wide range of experience and skills and be able to combine them with a high attention to detail, enthusiasm, and curiosity. Additionally the candidate will have:

  • Attained a high performing degree (2:1 minimum) in a relevant field (Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive etc).

  • Experience working autonomously in a relevant engineering environment with continual demands and changing priorities.

  • Previous motorsport or automotive dyno testbed experience would be desirable

  • Programming experience (Matlab / Simulink / VBA).

  • Self-driven and continuously looking for opportunities to implement improvements

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Organised and initiative-taking, able to communicate clearly, and willing to take ownership and accountability for their work.

  • Stays in touch with the latest industry innovations.
