Director, Security

NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Director, Security based in Daytona Beach, FL.

The Director, Security develops, plans, directs and manages the implementation of a comprehensive security program for the Company.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, and manage a corporate security and employee safety program for the Company.

  • Possess a working knowledge of Cyber Security processes and assist the Enterprise Security Team as needed.

  • Interface with Federal, State, and local authorities, and the Enterprise Security Team in the event of a breach or cyber incident.

  • Notify management of security weaknesses and implement corrective procedures.

  • Be responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing security policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Act as a liaison to federal law enforcement and other regulatory organizations on behalf of the Company.

  • Study physical conditions, observe activities and confer with management regarding internal operations.

  • Analyze existing electronic and manned security systems; make recommendations for upgrades and improvements.

  • Assist the Managing Director of Security to ensure that tracks and facilities follow NASCAR's security standards and as otherwise necessary:

  • Work with authorities to investigate crimes against property and personnel.

  • Conduct surveillances of premises as required.

  • Be responsible for protecting corporate information and physical assets wherever they are located.

  • Establish or refine employee procedures to reduce risks before the problems occur.

  • Incorporate a "security is process" philosophy, enabled by technology.

  • Manage physical security programs and implement and enforce physical security procedures and policies.

  • Coordinate the emergency planning and crisis management efforts.

  • Compile and analyze local and international security data and intelligence reports and recommend appropriate action.

  • Prepare and disseminate security information to departments and offices in the field and publish travel advisories.

  • Develop and implement policies, guidelines and procedures governing office security to include information classification and the handling of sensitive information.

  • Familiarity with disaster recovery and business continuity.

  • Coordinate closely with the local and federal law enforcement agencies, public safety entities, and security officials in related agencies to ensure good local community relations on security issues.

  • Maintain professional contacts with vendors, technical representatives and comparable organizations, so as to be constantly knowledgeable about the latest security applications and issues.

  • Represent the Company as required on public safety matters.

  • Assist in executive protection duties as required during NASCAR-sanctioned events, logistical support and related special projects for family members, NASCAR executives and guests.

  • Maintain proficiency in the use of protective equipment, firearms, and weapons.

  • Meet and continue to meet any applicable state, county, and municipal licensing and permit requirements for armed security work and specific protective device and weapons qualifications. Must qualify annually under federal HR 218 (Law Enforcement Safety Act) and NASCAR firearm’s policy.

  • Work in environments and under conditions that require carrying authorized firearms and ammunition, the use of protective gear and devices, and awareness of personal safety and safety of others.

  • Utilize rapid and effective judgement in responding to unusual or emergency situations using appropriate escalation of force level and physical response as the situation may warrant, which could require employee to run quickly and for long distances, shield and protect VIPs, and take other physical preventive and/or reactive measures.

  • Approximately 50% travel, including weekends.

Required skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business and be a senior executive with strong analytical, strategic and communications skills in addition to security expertise.

  • Possess a breadth of experience to include analytical skills, business acumen and leadership qualities.

  • Possess at least 10 years of high-level managerial and policy making experience in the security/law enforcement field.

  • Must be able to ensure appropriate response to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Should possess a proven management track record in institutional, corporate, or other security operations.

  • Possess extensive knowledge of public safety and law enforcement.  Possess working knowledge of electronic security and fire protection systems, building codes, parking control, disaster preparedness, information security management, and general security methods and regulations to include general knowledge of budgetary matters and personnel procedures.

  • Develop and maintain contacts and working familiarity with other security programs to include appropriate regional corporate, state, and federal law enforcement officials and their public safety programs.

  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with emergency service and other corporate entities.

  • Be familiar with the physical security of people and property.  Possess working knowledge of digital security of computers and information.

  • Be able to set priorities and strategy, establishing security processes that interface with the corporate goals and measuring their effectiveness.

  • Have experience planning, implementing and providing centralized, coordinated leadership and direction of all aspects of corporate security.
