Design Engineer (Aero Model Design)

To support the growth of the team, we have exciting opportunities at Aston Martin formula 1 Team for a Design Engineer within our Aerodynamics department.

 

This is an incredibly fast paced and varied design role that requires you to work on the construction of CAD concept surfaces, wind tunnel model and mechanical projects.

Working from within our Aerodynamic Development group, you will be responsible for the following;

 

  • To own, develop and implement aspects of the current philosophy for the aerodynamic design
  • To maximise the performance gains of the aerodynamic design projects
  • Work proactively and constructively to implement, develop and maintain improved methods of working.

Key Skills:

  • Responsible for owning design projects, conception through to delivery including parts creation, management, checking, fault prevention and resolution as well as any project documentation
  • Ensuring timing and part availability for WT testing liaising with relevant departments
  • Continually improving the quality and functionality of the WT model with a view to improving the efficiency of our WT testing program while maintaining high quality results.
  • Focus on WT testing efficiency - WT change time reduction.
  • Continually improve the design of the WT model

 

All Applicants must:

  • Excellent degree level qualifications in Mechanical, Automotive or Motorsports Engineering.
  • Possess three or more years relevant workplace experience in either Motorsports, Product, Industrial, Automotive or Mechanical design.
  • Possess excellent working knowledge of CAD systems with a preference of CATIA.
  • Ability to apply structural engineering techniques for part validation in the form of FE analysis.
  • Thorough knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques including composite manufacture and Advanced Digital Manufacturing.
  • Significant DFM, DFA and FMEA experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GD&T and its application
  • Excellent attention to detail and component accuracy.
  • Drive local WT model design philosophies for car development areas
  • Drive global WT model design philosophies – both from an engineering and operational viewpoint
  • Ability to work unsupervised and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills
