Started in the mid 1970’s, Dymag is an iconic designer and manufacturer of lightweight motorsport wheels using advanced Carbon Composite, forged Magnesium and Aluminium wheels for cars and motorcycles. Many Formula 1, IndyCar, Moto GP, Superbike teams and Isle of Man TT champions have raced and won on Dymag wheels.

As part of Dymag’s on-going development and a move to new premises we are looking for a Composite Production Assistant to support our range of exciting new projects.

SUMMARY AND SCOPE OF ROLE:

As a Composite Production Assistant your principal responsibility will be facilitating the production of high-quality composite laminates to tight deadlines by taking responsibility for the pre and post-wrapping/laminating stages of Dymag’s RTM wheel production process. In combination with this the individual should contribute to improving both the quality and efficiency of the process in partnership with the Composite Production Team and Engineering.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

This role is varied and will be tailored to and individual’s training, skills and experience. Day to day duties could include the following as part of the Composite Production Team:

  • Cutting Carbon kits to produce wheels
  • Checking foams are the correct specification for drawings and preparing for production
  • Preparing and assembling mould tooling
  • Ensuring route cards are booked on SAP at the start of each new barrel
  • Handling of woven materials and foams
  • Wrapping, positioning and trimming materials on the mould (depending on training level and competency)
  • Ensuring injection machine is fully operational and in good working order
  • Operating RTM injection machines
  • De-moulding and de-flashing wheels after injection
  • Trimming and sanding wheels pre and post-cure
  • Ensuring any rejected wheels are logged with the Quality Manager
  • Light assembly of wheels
  • Checking wheels for leaks
  • Other production tasks as required on occasion that align with the individual’s training and experience

  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping to 5S standard within the factory but specifically in the individual’s own work area

  • Carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post at all times in compliance with all company policies and legislative requirements

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS:

  • Excellent end component visual and structural quality when measured against Dymag’s defined standards to minimise scrap to a negligible level
  • High production throughput / low cycle time
  • Acting as a team player to help the team also maximise quality and productivity
  • Regularly inputting into optimising the production process

Knowledge, skills & experience:

Essential:

  • Excellent hand eye coordination and manual dexterity

Desirable:

  • Ability to read and draw information from engineering drawings/manuals
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of composite materials and other production techniques
  • Formal vocational qualification in relevant discipline
  • Experience producing structural composite components (RTM desirable or pre-preg)
  • Experience working in fast-moving, quality-focused technical environments (e.g. automotive, motorsport or aerospace)
