CNC Machinist/Programmer

General Summary:

Reports to Machine Shop Manager. Sets up, programs, and operates CNC machines to produce quality finished machined parts for delivery to other departments. Inspects parts, maintains machines, cleans shop, and de-burrs parts.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Programs CNC machines.
  • Sets up machines, makes fixtures, jaws tooling, and sets cutters.
  • Operates machines to produce machined parts according to specifications and quality standards.
  • De-burrs and grinds finished machined parts.
  • Preps raw materials.
  • Cleans and maintains machines and shop area.
  • Assumes any responsibilities delegated by the Machine Shop Manager.

Education and Work Experience:

CNC Machine trade school certificate or Community College Certificate required. Typically requires 2 to 3 years of CNC Machine Shop experience preferably in a race team environment.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

Proven ability to safely and properly set up and operate CNC machines. Knowledge of proper machining techniques. Proficient metrology knowledge. Proficient in math and blueprint reading. Strong written and oral communication, teamwork, and people skills.

Equipment and Applications:

Computer, calculator, CNC machines, hand tools, measuring tools.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Able to lift moderately heavy metal objects. Able to stand for long periods of time. Repeated torque of vise handles and clamp nuts. Manual dexterity to hand grind and de-burr using precision grinders. Work environment includes loud noise, coolant, sharp objects, and automatic machinery.
