To ensure we are reaching and maintaining these elite-level standards both on and off the track, we are seeking a Circuit Engineering Manager to join our Circuit Engineering team.

Circuit Engineering’s main areas of responsibility comprise the design, coordination, and project management to ensure that the Circuit is ready for each Formula One event. The team liaise extensively with the individual circuits and suppliers before and during the weekend, often identifying and solving potential issues before they arise.

Circuit Engineering have a big role in new circuit design liaising with track designers and architect’s years in advance of the event to ensure F1 systems will be able to be deployed efficiently and safely for the race, your work will be split between the Event Technical Centre at the race circuits, and our Media &Technical Centre in Biggin Hill.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

Working together with hundreds of people, the Circuit Engineering Manager will be at the heart of the sport, making every event unforgettable. You will be responsible for ensuring the Circuit Engineering team deliver core obligations, including project management, planning, surveying, drawing/data management for all elements of F1 technical and broadcast infrastructure at events.

 Other duties include:

  • To manage, undertake, coordinate, develop, and deliver the core activities of the Circuit Engineering team:
    • To liaise with all FOM departments regarding F1 systems equipment locations and to prepare and compile drawings of circuit equipment layout and rig plan, team garage/paddock allocations, ETC and TV Compound layouts and other drawings as required.
    • To use AutoCAD to prepare drawings must be comfortable with the use of XREFs, attributed blocks and dynamic block creation.
    • To act as liaison between FOM, the circuit, the FIA, and outside contractors at the circuit to facilitate the smooth running of the Grand Prix from the Company’s perspective.
    • To carry out GPS, Total station and laser scanning surveys of track and other areas as required using survey equipment.
    • To carry out measured building surveys of garages including services and surveys of other buildings such as the control tower etc.
    • To liaise with the Circuit and FIA personnel in the placement of external services (marshal lights etc.)
  • Review and update team practices and procedures to increase efficiencies and new products and outputs.
  • Proactively ensure you are aware of current best practice and H&S protocols to ensure safe working practices. Reviewing and maintaining risk assessments and work method statement.
  • Ensure that the Circuit Engineering projects and procedures are aligned with F1’s sustainability strategy.
  • Monitor and report on work undertaken within the team and report to Head of Race Engineering and Infrastructure.
  • Planning and liaising with all F1 departments, including overseeing event planning activities and meetings.
  • Proactively assess, monitor, and mitigate operational risk in relation to Circuit Engineering.
  • Ensure that documentation produced by the Department is created in a timely manner, including GSM, post-race reports and recce reports.
  • Work closely with the Chief Engineer of Circuit Developments to establish requirements and handover points for new projects.
  • Look for and recommend cost saving and opportunities across the company relevant to Circuit Engineering.

Management 

  • Manage, lead, and inspire team members.
  • To lead by example and hold regular 121 meetings with each team member, setting and reviewing personal objectives.
  • In conjunction with HoD review and progress recruitment, evaluation including annual bonuses, salary reviews and promotions, training, staff motivation and development in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate travel planning and rota and attendance for the Department, including recces and races.
  • In conjunction with the HoD, define, oversee, and review team objectives.
  • Lead and execute the growth and maturity of the team with an agenda of a highly motivated and performing engineers.
  • Hold regular department meetings and encourage effective communication throughout the department.
