Chief Race Technician

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

  • To lead and develop all workshop activities relating to racing activities.
  • To comply with all Company policies and procedures, for example, delegation of authority, health
  • and safety policy, etc.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • This role will report to the Build Manager during the normal working week. During any race and test event (to be known as “an event”) the role will report directly to the Team Manager / Technical Director.
  • The Chief Race Technician will be responsible for:
    • Co-ordination, and management of all “garage” activities during an event. Including:
      • Preparation & maintenance of the garage and surrounding areas, including pit-wall, pit-box, and paddock area assigned to the team.
      • Preparation & maintenance each race car
      • Adherence to official race & team timing plans
      • Adherence to race regulations, relating to car-build, car-running, and crew operations
      • Management and training of all garage members
    • Co-ordination, and management of all pre & post-event activities relating to the current race car(s). Including:
      • Pre & post event car preparations, including car servicing, updates, repairs, and completion of all relevant paperwork relating to traceability, shortages, and set-up configuration.
      • Management of parts Lifing system in support of Pre & post event car preparation and servicing.
      • Ensure all race and spare bodywork is liveried in the latest Branding scheme.
      • Preparation & maintenance of all garage and service equipment. Ensuring all equipment is to the correct specification, in good working order, fully certificated if necessary, and sufficiently comprehensive to complete all required tasks.
      • Ensure that race support Vehicles have correct and adequate stocks of consumables and that all items have reasonable “use by” dates.
      • Preparation and training of all crew members. Ensuring they are fully competent to complete their assigned tasks, have a full understanding of the operational regulations that affect them, and are fully clear on the standards, and timing requirements expected by the team. Ensure that all Race PPE is usable and complies with current FIA regulations.
      •  Help with recruitment and selection of crew members.
    • To support the Build Manager with event related administrative activities as requested.
    • On rare occasions it may be necessary to step in for the Build Manager and the other Senior Technicians if necessary, for short periods.
  • To ensure work areas are kept clean and tidy, in line with company policy and standards.
  • To ensure all uniform and Personal Protective Equipment issued is worn and used as directed.
  • To monitor and communicate associated parts and consumable requirements.
  • To be the main point of contact for any race related workshop activities.
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time
  • Compliance with all departmental H&S requirements
  • Compliance, where appropriate with management, & environmental, systems, such as ISO 9001 & ISO 14001

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION
Qualifications and Experience

  • Ideally either a qualification such as Level 3 IVQ (C&G) in Motor Vehicle Engineering, Level 3 Diploma in light Vehicle Maintenance and repair or a Level 3 Advanced Race Technician Apprenticeship.
  • The candidate would have a minimum of 5 years working on race cars at both a National and International level with some previous experience in a lead role within a Motorsports Race Team.

Any JRM employee may be asked on occasion to perform additional or unrelated duties, after appropriate
training has been given, if required.

Summary Terms & Conditions

  • Pension - Upon joining the Company, you will be automatically enrolled, with contributions starting
  • after successful completion of the probationary period. On completion of one years’ service, and
  • subject to the rules, you will be invited to participate in the main JRM pension scheme.
  • Leave entitlement - 25 days per year plus statutory holidays (compulsory shutdown of three days
  • at Christmas).
  • Notice period - There will be an initial three-month probationary period, during which notice will
  • be one week on either side. On successful completion of the probationary period notice will be one
  • month.
  • Working hours - 08:30 – 17:00, Monday to Friday.
