Chief Project Engineer - Vehicle Development and Attributes

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):

As Chief Project Engineer for our Vehicle Development and Attributes projects, you will be responsible for project definition and delivery within our Engineering Technical Services team for Vehicle development & attributes.  In a role with a combination of inward and outward facing tasks, you will be comfortable meeting new customers and developing relationships to win business with our commercial team, in parallel working closely with our engineering and project management teams to define and deliver business outputs.

Technically you will have experience in design and development within the automotive vehicle sector, although other areas of relevant technology development may also be considered.  As importantly, you will be able to impart your technical knowledge with ease, conviction and credibility to our customers and your colleagues.  You will require a good understanding and working knowledge of:

  • Conventional ICE, Hybrid and Battery Electric vehicle architectures, specifically, underbody structures.
  • Automotive development processes (Niche & Volume Manufacture)
  • Virtual Integration, vehicle attribute definition and target setting
  • Vehicle dynamics, chassis design and tuning.
  • Advanced material manufacture, joining, bonding and assembly processes

Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)

  • Degree in engineering or related technical discipline, and preferably with higher qualifications, (master’s degree or equivalent)

  • Strong, relevant industry experience, preferably within consultancy and vehicle programmes delivery

  • Strong track record of winning and delivering significant high value business and delivering to very tight timescales

  • Effective in solving client problems, driving unique value for clients, with a track record of qualifying opportunities based on opportunity profile, available resources, assets and budget

  • Proven skill in defining and preparing winning proposals, with the ability to develop strong customer relationships and profitable revenue streams .
  • Good team player with open and honest communicative style and evidence of ability to build and lead complex teams of professional engineers
  • Strategic thinker, eager to take initiative, effective at creating, communicating and selling technically-oriented business solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must generate respect and confidence from peers and senior groups, and be credible internally with highly qualified engineers and technical experts
  • Excellent communicator with strong presentation skills and experience of working with many global cultures

You'll need to be willing to travel extensively to cover the global scope of this role, particularly with interfaces within the Geely Group.
