CFD R&D ENGINEER

Purpose of the Role:

To deliver and maintain a robust, consistent and efficient CFD workflow and methodology for aerodynamics design of F1 race cars.

Role Dimensions:

  • Senior role in the CFD Methodology group, reporting to the Head of CFD and collaborating with other members of the CFD Methodology, HPC, Software and Correlation teams to drive the CFD tools development efforts.
  • This role is predominantly factory based but may involve occasional travel when working in collaboration with third parties.

Key Relationships:

  • CFD project leaders and other members of the CFD Methodology and HPC team.
  • Correlation and Software Development teams eventually involved in the projects.
  • Any third party eventually involved in the projects, including interns and PhD students

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Deliver improvements to the CFD methodology matching the set targets and perform the related CFD R&D activities, including eventual support to the Aerodynamic Development or HPC teams.
  • Champion various tools used in CFD technology team in their workflow. Develop in-depth understanding of these tools and develop techniques to address their limitations or improve them.
  • Develop a high level of understanding of the other factors influencing CFD methodology and performance: HPC hardware, software, novel numerical methods, correlation etc – and use this to liaise effectively with the HPC, Software and Correlation teams.
  • Be able to contribute and help maintain a large codebase.
  • Develop a high level of understanding of the aerodynamic performance development in general. Use this to keep a strong link with the Aerodynamic Development and deliver CFD methodology support.
