Business Development Manager

Reaction Engines is looking for a Business Development Manager to join the Applied Technologies team on a full time, permanent basis. The Applied Technologies team is commercialising revolutionary thermal management technologies, developed on the SABRE programme, into exciting markets including motorsport, electric transport, aerospace and power generation. This key role is to lead all aspects of Business Development within Applied Technologies.

As a senior team member you will work closely with the Head of Applied Technologies, Commercial Manager and Sector Leads in developing a sales strategy to increase the company’s revenue targets through direct sales, licence agreements, partnerships and strategic alliances.

Principle Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Lead all BD activities within the scope of Applied Technologies:
    • Develop a broad external network, build effective relationships and influence key stakeholders.
    • Lead the bid management process for new opportunities, working with engineering team.
    • Manage the creation of the bid deliverables and ensuring review and governance, leading to the creation of high quality proposals.
    • Negotiate and close sales agreements.
    • Deliver enhanced commercial engagement with new and existing partners and customers across Motorsport, Energy, Aerospace and Electric Transport sectors.
    • Lead market research and identification, analysis & promotion of new business opportunities.
    • Coordinate business cases and proposals for presentation to the Executive Leadership Team, Board and Investors.
    • Lead new product studies, utilising capability in the wider engineering team.
    • Work alongside marketing to ensure appropriate and focused marketing effort and campaigns.
    • Support and help steer the Applied Technologies team to create business growth opportunities leveraging existing capabilities.
  • Support Head of Applied Technologies with defining and implementing commercialisation strategy.
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver strategic planning, business development and sales activities for Applied Technologies.
  • Participate in learning and development activities that develop personal effectiveness and assist in improving performance in the role.
  • Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required in line with the level of responsibility of the post and in order to meet the changing needs of the organisation

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience within a business development role with proven success.
  • Previous experience working within a product based technology company.
  • Experienced with the Bid/Tender process.
  • Experienced in writing business development strategy/business plan.
  • Experience writing business cases and proposals both in an R&D and commercial “product“ environment

Desirable

  • Taking new, disruptive products to market.
  • Technology startup/spin out - growth business experience.
  • Performing research into the market, customer trends, and competition in the market.
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: Electric vehicle battery systems, Power generation, Motorsport, Aircraft systems.
  • Global/cultural experience in a techno-commercial environment.

Qualifications

  • Scientific or engineering degree or equivalent industrial experience
