Assistant Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering

Working in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Automotive Engineering, you will be committed to contributing to our continued success in delivery of engineering programmes. You will join a School with high levels of teaching quality and student satisfaction (ranked in the Guardian University Guide 2020 in the country's top three for our courses in Mechanical Engineering).

The successful candidate will have sufficient expertise and experience to be able to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate degree programmes in Mechanical, Automotive and Motorsport Engineering in topics relating to Materials Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies. Working within the module teaching teams you will support the delivery and development of subject areas including metallic materials, alloys and their manufacturing processes. Knowledge and experience in materials engineering and processing is essential. Knowledge of metal forming and joining processes, Additive Manufacturing and Materials Selection software (CES) is beneficial.

You will need to share our passion for delivering a positive student experience that puts excellence in teaching and learning at the heart of everything we do and will be able to demonstrate significant knowledge in your area of specialisation. You must be willing to work flexibly and promote and support partnerships, as well as potentially deliver teaching at one of our partners.

The position is primarily open to candidates who wish to focus on teaching practice, development and management. However, successful candidates will have the opportunity to apply to become an active member of one of the Faculty Research Centres (FRCs).

Ideally, the candidate should be qualified to PhD level in a relevant subject. However, we also encourage candidates with relevant industrial experience to an equivalent level to apply.

Experience of working on applied research projects or contracts, as well as participation in professional practice/consultancy will be advantageous.
