OVERVIEW: The successful candidate will have a passion and commitment to a career in Aerodynamic Engineering and Motorsports. The candidate will take part in activities related to wind tunnel testing that include test planning, directing test article preparation, execution, data analysis, and reporting. Working closely with our agile team of Aerodynamic Engineers, CFD Engineers, Design Engineers, and Fabricators, you will employ and develop the most modern methods available. You will have the opportunity to be involved in various aspects of aerodynamic development program, which may include design specification, conceptual layout, component optimization, physical realization, and on-track performance verification. This position is located inside of the Aerodynamic department at the New Hudson, MI Pratt Miller location.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS:

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • General test planning, execution, and data analysis experience required
  • Support the development or targets and integration of aerodynamics into broader vehicle for system performance optimization
  • Create reports and communicate findings to customers
  • Assist in the creation of concepts and aero surfaces for CFD / wind tunnel testing
  • Utilize cad (CATIA) to open, create, manipulate, analyze models and drawings
  • Ability to work hands on in the model shop to assist model makers as necessary.
  • Work with Pratt & Miller manufacturing, model making, electronics, software, and race operations groups to complete projects to a high standard
  • Ability to perform, thrive, and work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Active enrollment in an accredited bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required
  • FSAE or other motorsport / automotive aerodynamics experience preferred

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Academic exposure to aerodynamic forces, testing, and technology
  • Experience in CAD surfacing design, preferably Catia Generative Shape Design
  • Part modelling and production documentation for test parts as required
  • Ability to take on assignments independently when necessary
  • Ability and skill able to suggest detailed improvements on systems and procedures to design staff to improve on efficiency

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Up to 10% travel required (Domestic and International)
  • Hands-on skills and willingness to fit test parts in shop or at wind tunnel as needed
  • Ability to move boxes and parts up to 50 lbs.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Day Shift, start time of 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM M-F
  • Must be flexible with work schedule to accommodate fixed deadlines, including occasional work on Saturday and/or Sunday
  • Able to work off-hour and/or weekend wind tunnel shifts when required
