The Position:

We have an exciting new position available as an Aero Concept Designer, working within our surfacing team to help shape and define the geometry of the F1 car.

 

In this role you will be right at the heart of the design process, collaborating closely with aerodynamicists, model and full-size car designers to create high quality, high performance surfaces.

 

Key operational duties:

  • Providing support in all aspects of the concept surfacing function, within one of the development groups.

  • Working closely with aerodynamicists to understand the definition and requirements of all new surfaces, including modelling and construction approach.

  • Creating high quality surface geometry for both CFD, Wind Tunnel and full size car components.

  • Involvement in supporting the Lead and Seniors surfacers to help push forward methodology and model improvements within their groups, to aid learning / exchange of ideas across the department.

  • Identifying ways to improve the latest design practices. Taking ownership and instigating improvements + monitoring progress with our software group / other disciplines across the department.

  • Taking an active role in helping to maintain any relevant surfacing documentation and ensure that standard design practices are adhered to for surface models issued within the aerodynamics department.

Ideal credentials:

  • An excellent level of CAD literacy. Experience with NX is preferred, although Catia V5 also considered.  Successful candidate will receive support from experienced surfacers to improve their capabilities.

  • You will be a highly creative person, relying on a good level of understanding of surfacing and parametric modelling techniques. 

  • Highly proactive exceptional team player with the ability to manage workload and prioritise in-line with the fast paced nature of an F1 environment.

  • High level of creativity coupled with an exceptional attention to detail, relying on a good level of understanding of surfacing and parametric modelling techniques. 

  • Ability to work with an open and flexible approach with a high degree of reactivity in handling changes in priorities / direction.

  • Demonstrate fantastic communication skills both verbally and graphically to help communicate throughout the design process.

  • Previous F1 experience / understanding of the latest F1 regulation is preferred.

  • The successful candidate will have completed appropriate engineering training, such as an apprenticeship, HNC, HND or degree in a relevant discipline (Motorsport / Aero / Engineering / Product / Industrial Design).
