Aero-Structures Engineer

Renault Sport Racing have an excellent opportunity to join our team at a tremendously exciting time in our history within Formula 1. As we continue to grow as a team, we are looking for a highly talented individual to join our Aerodynamics department as an Aero-Structures Engineer.

Aero-Structures Engineer – The Role

The core responsibility of this position will involve investigation and generation of aero-elastic concepts to enhance the performance on the race car. The areas of work are varied, but will all require close liaison with both the Aerodynamics and Stress teams. You will be providing insights and guidance on how to best approach the design of specific car components, in order to maximise performance benefits on-track. The role will also involve providing advice and guidance on the structural design of the wind-tunnel model, to better replicate the on-track car behaviour.

Aero-Structures Engineer – The Person

The successful candidate will possess a PhD, or a good relevant degree (or equivalent), with several years’ industrial experience in an aero-elastics or aero-structures context.

You will be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding, and experience of, the trades between structural strength, stiffness and aerodynamic performance, as well as strong knowledge and experience of structural composite design, in either a motorsport or aerospace environment.

Although training in our specific tools can be provided for the right candidate, expertise in the application of non-linear FEA and high-end CFD tools to model aero-elastic behaviours in an industrial context is a core skill (using tools such as Abaqus, Star-CCM+, Fluent, OpenFOAM, etc.). CATIA v5 skills would also be beneficial.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of creative thinking, and have demonstrated the ability to consistently deliver high-quality results, under pressure and within tight timescales. In addition, a good, wider engineering appreciation of racing car design would be beneficial, in order to be able to discuss the implications of your work with the wider teams.

Our offer to you

In return for your hard work and dedication we offer a team who is truly ambitious with their goals, with a unique and friendly working environment and competitive remuneration – including car schemes, pension, free on-site gym, subsidised canteen and many others.
