Aero Performance Team Leader

General Summary:  Reports to the Head of Vehicle Performance, is located in Varano de Melegari (Parma), Italy. This individual will manage a small group who will support all test and race events on behalf of the Aerodynamics and Vehicle Performance Departments.  The role is based in Italy and involves a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • All Department track/tunnel/CFD correlation activities.
  •  Maintenance of vehicle performance/reliability target data.
  • Rig testing for relevant subsystem development (Brake/Rad Rigs, etc.).
  • Vehicle Design Information database ownership
  • Responsible for all the Aero Performance Data & Document releases and dissemination of information throughout relevant technical departments.
  • Main Aero Performance reference for the trackside operations group.
  • Completes typical supervisory functions including preparation of probationary and annual performance reviews.
  • Follows and enforces safety regulations in all venues.
  • Contributing to improved communication between Banbury, trackside, US and Italy (aero/design) office.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of Vehicle Performance or their designee.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Education and Work Experience:

  • BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering required. Typically requires at least 6 years of experience in the automobile racing industry, experience in high technology motorsport  environment (F1 – LMP1 are preferable) is a plus.
  • Strong data analysis experience required ideally within the Aero Performance environment, broad understanding of race car aero performance (F1 - LMP1 are preferable).
  • Proven experience with CFD software and 3D CAD software. Able to understand, model, and create a part or device. 
  • Understanding of aerodynamics and fluid analysis. 
  • Knowledge of structural analysis is beneficial. 
  • Understanding of vehicle dynamics is beneficial.   
  •  Ability to travel on a regular basis

Equipment and Applications:

Data Acquisition software experience, MAT ATLAS is beneficial. Working experience using MATLAB/Simulink and Python is beneficial. Microsoft Office and engineering packages including but not limited to, wind tunnel, basic hand tools, fabrication tools. 

 Work Environment Physical Demands:

Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and have manual dexterity.  May require repeated bending and squatting.  Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands.  Work environment may include race cars, 7-Post equipment, heavy machinery, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids.
