Additive Manufacturing Metal Finishing Leader

Divergent 3D is on a mission to democratize the design and manufacture of vehicles. We want to enable a future where small entrepreneurial teams across the globe will bring increasingly material and energy efficient transportation solutions to market with a fraction of the capital and time.

The current auto manufacturing system is economically and environmentally broken. Divergent invented a manufacturing system that combines software, additive manufacturing, and assembly technologies to radically reduce the material, energy, time and capital required to design and build vehicles. This will transform the automotive industry from capital intensive to innovation intensive while dramatically reducing the lifecycle environmental impact of vehicles. Over the past two years, the company has been recognized for its disruptive innovation, receiving the Frost & Sullivan Innovation of the Year and the inaugural Petersen Innovation in the Automotive Industry awards as well as being named a Google Moonshot company.

The Role: Additive Manufacturing Metal Finishing Leader

Divergent is seeking an experienced and motivated Metal Finishing Leader for post-processing of additive manufactured hardware. We’re committed to establishing a new industrial standard of automotive manufacturing. To do this, we need a highly motivated and innovative team leader to continuously improve our metal finishing capabilities to achieve the best possible structural and aesthetic results.

What You Will Do:

  • • Post-process additive manufactured components to design and quality requirements during initial development and document and transfer those learnings to the post-processing team for rate production
  • • Provide leadership to a team of post-processing technicians and help them to become independently capable to complete all mechanical finishing operations
  • • Guide engineering teams on methods for removal of powder and support structures from additively manufactured components
  • • Track related consumable supplies and work with supply chain when additional supplies are required (procurement and maintenance of machine and hand tooling, personal protective equipment, etc.)
  • • Follow standardized file systems, ensuring traceability of documentation for all part finishing related tasks

What You Have:

  • • 8+ years of experience finishing metal parts using a wide variety of mechanical finishing methods including blasting, shot peening, deburring, texture/finish improvement, coating/plating, etc.
  • • Familiarity with the implementation and practice of quality processes in an ISO 9001, AS9100, and/or IATF 16949 environment
  • • Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast moving, start up environment
  • • Ability to train junior operators
  • • Ability to effectively interface with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand, improve and automate post-processing tasks

What Sets You Apart

  • • Experience using Robotic Arms and PLC based automation equipment
  • • Experience finishing additively manufactured components
  • • Operations of CNC machines and understanding of G-Code
  • • Experience with conversion, pre-treat, coating, and/or adhesive bonding processes
